WILLIAM PENN MOTT, JR.
CSPRA Honorary State Park Ranger 1979
The contributions
of William Penn Mott, Jr. to the field of Parks and Recreation
are far too numerous to list. We CSPRA members are perhaps most
familiar with his accomplishments as Director of the California
Department of Parks and Recreation. Under his inspiring leadership,
the Department experienced phenomenal growth and became known
for its innovations.
One example of this was the initiation of the computer reservation system for the State Park System. He was instrumental in advancing the professionalism of the State Park Ranger and in establishing the Department's Training Center. Also, the California State Parks Foundation was conceived and instituted through his efforts.
Mr. Mott has long been an advocate of public participation and involvement of the private sector in the development of recreational facilities.
Mr. Mott was President of the California State Parks Foundation thus continuing his active involvement in the State Park System.
