RE: Retirement of Tim La Franchi, Legal Services
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to the Department's Chief Legal Counsel, Tim La Franchi, who will be retiring at the end of this month. Tim has provided outstanding legal guidance to our Department and has greatly expanded the level of service and the diversity of expertise within the Department's legal services unit.
Upon informing me of his decision to retire, Tim shared with me that he had been thinking about this decision for quite some time, and he leaves now with very mixed emotions. While he is excited to be retiring after a twenty-nine year career, he is also sad to be leaving so many good friends and the challenging, but important work that we do at State Parks. Tim characterizes his tenure with State Parks as "the best nine years of his career," and he found, as all of us do who join the State Parks family, that this Department is the best place to work in all of state government. We will miss him terribly, but there is some good news. Tim has agreed to work as a retired annuitant on some of the continuing hot button issues like the El Moro litigation.
Please join me in thanking Tim for his years of outstanding service to the Department and to the people of California and wishing him well in his retirement.
