CSPRA’s member communication document has gone through seven name changes. The first issue was just called “CSPRA Newsletter,” until 1969 when it was renamed “The Reporter.” Editor Jeff Price held a contest in 1980 to rename the newsletter and “California Ranger” was selected, as suggested by member Bill Krumbein. It continued with that name until the Board decided to start a professional publication and took that name for the journal in December 1980, and the newsletter went back to using the name “Newsletter.” Then, the professional journal evolved into a joint publication by CSPRA and PRAC, and then became a separate publication for the short-lived “Cal Ranger Foundation” under President Rick Parmer. When that charitable non-profit became inactive in 1992 the name “California Ranger” evaporated. The name returned to “CSPRA Newsletter” until “The CSPRA Wave” was selected for the name in 2000.
