The First Thirty Years, 1943-1973

State Parks digitalized the first 30 years of their monthly publication,  News & Views , 1943-1973 (7,050 pages). Then CSPRA Board member Kim Preston did the work to combine the raw scans and convert them into a HUGE PDF file. We then divided and saved that single file into smaller and separate semi-decades.

Each very large file is stored individually on the CSPRA server. With about a 5-minute wait, using a high-speed connection, these files can be and downloaded or accessed and searched online. Each 300+ MB file has its own search feature if you are looking for a particular name, story or location. Just use keyboard strokes for “search” once you have the file open or downloaded.

“On the Cover of News & Views”

Play Carl Burger’s 1982 parody of “On The  Cover Of The Rolling Stone,” sung to a tune originally written and released in October 1972 by  Shel Silverstein and first recorded by American rock group Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show. Click below.

Carl wrote new lyrics and performed all vocals and instrumentals himself. His remix title was, “On the Cover of News & Views.” Carl was a pretty clever and uniquely talented State Park Ranger. This song was on first Carl’s album, “The Dark Side of the Forest.” His first and subsequent efforts, released on compact cassette audio tape, were sold as a fund raiser for CSPRA and SaveBodie!.

We remastered and re-released all 57 songs from Burger’s 6 album compilations as .mp3 digital recordings and made those available to CSPRA members as a free perk.  If you are a member and would like the login and password to the .mp3 recordings, drop a note to the Webmaster.  We can also get you signed up with a new or renewed CSPRA membership ($10 Active, $5 retired), so just ask.
